My name is Sammie Longhorn. I am a herb crafter, forager and folklorist.
In our modern world, many of us have become disconnected from the abundance of nourishing and healing plants; growing wild in our native forests, fields, meadows, gardens and hedgerows.
My passion is for connecting people with these incredible plants and their edible and medicinal properties. Where better to begin than here with me in The New Forest?
I first became interested in foraging and gathering around fifteen years ago when my husband (a talented chef) and I ran a pub together. We would often head out into our peaceful surroundings, away from the daily stresses of pub life to gather herbs, mushrooms, fruit and nuts that would be used on our menu or in our home larder in the form of pickles and preserves.
When we eventually left the pub behind, my passion for wild ingredients became more holistic, especially when I began training as a yoga teacher. When I knew I was on my spiritual path, I further immersed myself in nature and made it my mission to learn as much as I possibly could about our native plants, their magical and medicinal properties and their importance in our history, folklore, myths and legends. Much of this knowledge has come from my teacher and mentor Dee Dade from Hedgerow Herbs.
I now think of these plants less as ingredients but more as important allies that have the power to enhance our lives on every level. Through my work as “The Hedgerow Yogi”, I plan to share what I have learned and to help spread the forgotten knowledge of our ancestors, so that you may benefit from the abundance of your surroundings and be empowered to take the health of yourself and your family into your own hands.
I offer a number of seasonal, nature-based workshops and collaborations throughout the year at a variety of locations.
These include:
Each season brings its own gifts and I look forward to sharing them with you.

On my Foraging Walks, I love to share tips for safe identification of native edible plants and an explanation of how the plants would have been used historically and traditionally.
The walks are steeped with folklore and mythology, this is how our ancient ancestors would have passed along the knowledge of which plants can harm us and which can heal us.
